BAL-FZ ‘Flame Zone’ Fernmount

This project set amongst the trees in Fernmount, provided many challenges to overcome. Set on a steep site classified as BAL-FZ ‘Flame Zone’, the highest bushfire attack level classification that can be given. From the outset this provided many design challenges as we worked with our client to solve many of construction elements in advance to ensure the build would be able to progress smoothy.

All materials and systems were selected in accordance with the BAL-FZ construction conditions. Each window and door features electric bushfire roller shutters, one of the unique elements that allowed us to meet the Flame Zone compliance. The shutters, made from non-combustible materials, are designed to reduce heat by up to 90% and keep debris away from the home.

The finished result is a home that feels warm and inviting, set in serene and private surrounds, while simultaneously turning into a pretty epic bunker!
